Aldersgate offers several adult Sunday school classes, each with a different learning opportunity and style of study. We encourage our friends and guests to visit as many of our classes as they would like – to find the one that feels like home. You should also feel free to join any class, if they are working on a particular course of interest.

Our classes meet from 9:45 AM – 10:45 AM each Sunday.
Christian Fellowship Class – Room 156 Age Group: Older Retirement Age Location: Located in the third classroom on the hallway that runs along the right side of the gym Topic: Adult Bible Series
Good News Class – Room 214 Age Group: Adult class with a variety of ages – from 40 – 60+
Location: Located on the left – at the top of the stairs nearest the fellowship hall building entrance
Topic: Book Studies
Haddon Friendship Class – Room 158 Age Group: Nearing or at retirement age
Location: Located at the end of the hallway that runs along the right side of the gym
Topic: Variety of lessons, guest speakers, book studies

Location: Located at the “L” turn of the upstairs classrooms. Can be accessed by either stairwell
Topic: Book studies, scripture, marriage & family, discipleship
Kingdom Class – Room 152 Age Group: An adult class (ages from 40 – 60+) with/without middle, high school, and college age kids or older. Location: The first classroom on the hallway that runs along the right side of the gym Topic: Scripture is our topic with various teachers from our class who lead our lessons
Mac Vinson Companions Class Age Group: Nearing retirement age – some have college age children or grandchildrenLocation: On the lower level of the educational wing, next to the library. Closest access is the Edwards Rd entrance Topic: Scripture focused – usually going through a book of the Bible.

Older Adult Ministry

20131003_111538The Older Adult Ministry is a ministry by, with and for those who are interested in continuing their spiritual walk as they move into new stages of life such as; grandchildren, second careers, care giving and retirement. While all of the activities and programs are designed and directed by Aldersgate church members, our doors are wide open to friends and visitors alike. Please take a moment to look over the many events we offer…we invite you to get involved!
MONTHLY PRIME TIMER LUNCHEON AND GENERAL MEETING Join us on the first Monday of each month for lunch and a variety of scheduled programs, speakers and/or musical presentations. An example is: July 3rd-Zack Peterson,  Sustainability Educator from The Greater Greenville Sanitation. How can we be better stewards of our resources?  Make your reservations through one of the following methods:  Use a reservation card on Sunday mornings (found in the pews) and write in “Prime Timer Luncheon”, call Ruth Hughes at the church office (244-1820-ext. 204), add your name to the sign-up sheet in the Questers or Christian Fellowship Sunday school classrooms or respond to our calling team.  Reservations are always due the Wednesday prior to the event.  Cost is $7.00 per person, unless noted above.
BRIDGE 
The Aldersgate Bridge Group meets every Monday of each month at 1:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall. We welcome anyone who is interested, even beginners, to join us. Reservations must be made in advance to seat the tables correctly. Coordinator: Abe Lyden – 350-4671
OUTREACH/HOMEBOUND MINISTRY 
Although no longer able to actively participate in our activities, those in assisted living, nursing care, or at home are very much a part of the Older Adult Ministry. A volunteer visits or keeps in touch by telephone. We hear many of our volunteers report how much the visits are enjoyed. Wouldn’t you like to be involved in this program? We need you! ALDERSGATE SOJOURNERS
During the year, day trips and overnight trips are planned for those interested in traveling.  Call Ruth Hughes at 244-1820 ext. 204, for a brochure!
OLDER ADULT MINISTRY SUNDAY – On one special Sunday a year please join us for worship, (8:45 0r 11:00 AM) as we celebrate our Older Adult Ministries and their legacy of commitment to our church.For further questions or information about these programs, please call the church office at 244-1820-ext. 204 and your request will be directed to the appropriate coordinator.

United Methodist Men

UMM Golf Tournament 2012

The purpose of the United Methodist Men is to enhance the spirituality of all men of the church by providing an opportunity for fellowship during our monthly meeting, and by encouraging their involvement in the various projects undertaken during the year.  We have various fundraisers in which funds are distributed to various needs in our church and community.

Aldersgate UMM meets the third Monday of every month at 6:32 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Check the weekly newsletter and bulletin for speaker information. If you are not on a calling list for meal reservations, please be sure to call the church office at 244-1820 by the Thursday before the meeting to be counted for dinner.

United Methodist Women

The Aldersgate United Methodist Women’s Ministry (UMW) is a fellowship whose spiritual goal is to enhance an individual’s relationship with God and to provide an opportunity to participate in the local and global ministries of the church.The United Methodist Women’s Total Program encompasses many areas.  Some are: Support for Mission, Enrichment for Missions, Action for Mission, Participation.  To achieve these goals, the women of Aldersgate have developed many wonderful programs that vary in their design and participation.CirclesCurrently we have six Circles, which are small group fellowships, that meet on a monthly basis from September to May.

  • Susanna Wesley Circle – Second Tuesday, 12:00 noon in the Fellowship Hall, includes lunch
  • Louise Best Circle – Second Tuesday,10:30 am, in the Soul Cafe.
  • Mary Teasley Circle – Second Wednesday, 10:00 am, in member’s homes.
  • Circle of Light – Second Wednesday, 6:00 pm in the church.
  • Cindy Harter Circle – First Sunday of the month and are held in the Soul Café beginning at 3:00 pm.

Ladies Night Out
The General Meeting of the Aldersgate UMW is held quarterly and is combined with our “Ladies Night Out” events. These special evenings begin at 6:30 pm with a catered dinner in our Fellowship Hall, followed by a brief meeting and an entertaining, informational, inspirational program.Garage SalesGarage Sale - 2012
To support our local and global mission projects, we hold a church-wide garage sale, once in the spring and once in the fall. These events begin on a Monday, as members and helpers converge to sort and price donated items and then culminates the following Friday and Saturday as we open the doors to our neighbors and friends to find that “special treasure” they can’t do without. We also sell a variety of great sharp kitchen knives all year-long. Missions
Aldersgate focuses on several mission needs throughout the year.  Although there are others, these are our primary focus:

  • Wallace Family Life Center
  • Bethlehem Center, Columbia and Spartanburg
  • Rural Mission, Inc. – Johns Island
  • Killingsworth

The United Methodist Women of Aldersgate are a wonderful group of approximately 125 ladies all with a purpose of Missions and helping others in various different ways.

Women of Faith Bible Study

Women of Faith - Dee & KathieWomen of Faith is a group of women dedicated to being the best God wants us to be.  We fellowship, study, and pray all while having fun. Please join us on Tuesdays mornings!

NEW WEEKLY SCHEDULE:

  • 10:15-11:15 Small group study

The winter session will begin on January 12. We have a free nursery provided on Tuesday mornings from 9:15 until 11:30.
