The Leisure Ministries program at Aldersgate is designed to promote a wide variety of activities with special emphasis on spiritual and physical enhancement. It is our long-term goal to create a program which meets the needs of all age levels, as well as interest levels. We hope that you will find something of interest here that will help draw you closer to God and to the church as a whole. Perhaps you may find that you have a particular interest or gift that you would like to share.

WHO CAN PLAY?
*Playing as a Pastor Appeal exception will only be considered if a team is low in numbers. Members and Active Participants of the host church will be placed first. Then if there is room on the team we will consider Pastor Appeal players on a first come, first serve basis. This category also excludes the player from participating in the UMC State Basketball tournament, as their rules do not reflect this modification.
WHO CANNOT PLAY?
*Mites (8 & 9 yr. olds) – cannot have reached 10th birthday before Sept. 1st*It is the practice at Aldersgate to try and provide both, a boy’s team and a girl’s team at the Mites level. There is a separate division within the GDUMRA league for girl teams that gives them an opportunity for increased skills training.
REGISTRATION FORMS AND FEES ARE DUE BY THE END OF OCTOBER.
Practices begin by or before the first full week of November.
So far so good…? Next, comes the registration form. At first glance, it looks a little intimidating. We do ask for a great deal of information, as it helps make the start up work a little easier. Please try and fill in as much info as possible, so we don’t have to track you down later. Of special attention, are the sections on t-shirt orders, email address, insurance and areas of volunteer service. This year will have forms available at Family Connection, on Sunday mornings in classrooms and the mail slot in the office area. You may also print out a registration form below.
This year we will have a Men’s team, with a minimum age of 16 by April of this year. The Men’s team will play on Monday nights at Cleveland Park or Gower Park. The season is 8 games long with additional tournament play as long as we win one game. Please click on the following links to get a registration form and a copy of the rules. Cost is $55.00 per player which is due with the player contract before the season opener. Checks should be made out to AUMC.
Aldersgate UMC has two fully enclosed playground areas. The “Sand Lot” is designed for our younger pre-school children and the “Play Zone” is equipped for our K5 and elementary age kids. They are located at the back of the church property – across the drive from the gymnasium. There is also a nice clearing area for group games.
If you are more into t-ball, softball or soccer, then check out our small ballfield beside the upper parking area. It makes a great place to run and play.
When the weather is too rough to play outside then come in to our full regulation sized basketball court with adjustable backboards for our younger players. If basketball isn’t your sport, how about some volleyball, wall-ball or shuffleboard.
All of these recreational resources are available to members on a reservation basis. They are great places for birthday parties and family get-togethers. If you are a church member 21 years of age or older, contact the church office (864-244-1820) for available times.
